Mania
a distinct period of abnormally and persistently elevated, expansive, or irritable mood and increased goal-oriented activity or energy lasting at least one week
Hypomania
a distinct period of abnormally and persistently elevated, expansive, or irritable mood and increased goal-oriented activity or energy lasting at least 4 consecutive days.
Major Depressive
Depressive symptoms present during the same 2-week period representing a change from previous functioning with the presence of either depressed mood or loss of interest of pleasure.
Bipolar I Disorder
Occurrence of at least 1 manic episode that may have been preceded or followed by a hypomanic or a major depressive episode.
Bipolar II Disorder
Occurrence of at least one current or past hypomanic episode and at least one major depressive episode. There has never been a manic episode.
Cyclothymic Disorder
Presence of numerous periods of hypomanic and depressive symptoms that do not meet criteria for episodes and have been present for at least half the time for no more than 2 months for at least 2 years. Criteria for mania, hypomania, or major depressive episodes have never been met.
