neuro4a Flashcards
nucleus of CN 3 symptoms
bilateral ptosis and weakness of contralateral SR; failure of eye elevation
Cn 3 lesion in the subarachnoid space
meningismus, constitutional symptoms, and other CN defects
Tentorial edge compression
can cause a CN3 issue plue depresed level of consciousness, hemiparesis, and hitosy of trauma or supratentorial mass lesion
CN4 muscle
SO that intorts and depresses the adducted eye
CN4 lesion
oblique diplopia, worse on dow gaze when affected eye is adducted (diplopia when reading or going downstairs)
contralateral head tilt
seen in patients with Cn4 palsy
Cn6 innervates what muscle

esotropia, esp on ipsalateral gaze
most common causes of CN3 nerve dysfunction in older adults
microvascular occlusion and ischemia, associated with htn, DM, and atherosclerosis
MLF (medial longitudinal fasciculus)
connects the contralateral abducens nuc and paramedian pontine reticular formation with the ipsilateral 3rd nerve nucleus
