13 to 15 is mild; 8 to 12 moderate; and 3 to 7 severe

motor glasgow scale

how does hyperventilation decrease ICP
lowers PCO2, which leads to vasoconstriction (you do not need to have as much exchange to get rid of CO2); but prolonged hypervent incr risk of cerebral infarct

how do barbituraes lower ICP
esp pentobarbital, can reduce cerebral metabolism
early post traumatic seizure
less than 1 week after brain injury; late traumatic seizure is greater than 1 week
