Neuro Specific Symptoms Flashcards
What is muscle tone
A state of readiness of a muscle at rest or resistance to passive movement, normal tone should be high enough to keep you up Against gravity but low enough to allow movement
What can abnormal tone be
High (hypertonicity) which is increased resistance to passive movement, spasm, spasticity, rigidity, dystopia, dyspraxia
Objective assessments for tone
Tone diagram, modified ash worth scale, ROM, muscle strength
What causes low tone
Muscles depend on signals from motor nerves signals can become disrupted at the level of the brain and spinal cord or as a result of nerve damage between spinal cord and muscle
What conditions have low tone as a symptom
Cerebral palsy, spinal cord and brain injuries
