Neuro- Cerebral Vasculature+cerebrovascular Disorder Flashcards
4 types of haemorrhage
extradural
subdural
subarachnoid
intracerebral
cause of subarachnoid and
intracerebral
subarachnoid- ruptured aneurysm
intracerebral- spontaneous hypertensive
define stroke (cerebrovascular accident) and most common cause
rapidly developing focal disturbance of brain function of presumed vascular origin and of >24 hours duration
Thrombo-embolic (85%) or haemorrhage (15%)
define transient ischaemic attack
rapidly developing focal disturbance of brain function of presumed vascular origin that resolves completely within 24 hours”
ischaemia vs infarction
ischemia =blood flow to a tissue has decreased- permanent damage if not restored quick enough
infarction= blood flow completely cut off =necrosis, or cellular death.
risk factor for stroke
CHADS
cardiac disease
hypertension
age
DM
smoking
symptoms of anterior cerebral artery
Paralysis of contralateral structures (leg > arm, face)
Disturbance of intellect, executive function and judgement (abulia)
Loss of appropriate social behaviour
Middle cerebral artery symptoms
“Classic stroke”
Contralateral hemiplegia: arm > leg
Contralateral hemisensory deficits
Hemianopia
Aphasia (L sided lesion)
Posterior cerebral artery symptoms
Visual deficits
homonymous hemianopia
visual agnosia
