mood disorder pt2 Flashcards
what is attention bias
difficulties disengaging attention from negative material
-depression
what is attention bias more typical of
anxiety
what is memory bias
preferential recall of negative compared to positive material
what is perceptual bias
in depression: recognise negative faces more than positive faces
(extra info-depression enhances amygdala response to negative faces)
what is amygdala function
bias towards detecting cues signalling potential threats, like expressions of fear- normal function
dysfunction - could be extreme bias….
processes facial expressions of emotion and reacts to both pleasant and aversive images, signalling the brain’s response to rewards or punishments
Facial expression recognition modulation
by antidepressants in healthy volunteers- noradrenergic antidepressants vs serotonergic antidepressants
Acute single dose
Noradrenergic antidepressants (reboxetine, duloxetine):
better recognition of happy faces
Serotonergic antidepressants:
-mirtazapine: decreased recognition of fearful faces
-SSRI citalopram: mixed results
Facial expression recognition modulation
by antidepressants in healthy volunteers- noradrenergic antidepressants and serotonergic antidepressants
7 days treatment
both reduce recognition of anger and fear
Neurofunctional: reduced amygdala response to fear
