Neuro Flashcards
RLA: stage 1
no response: PROM, positioning, auditory/tactile stimulation
RLA: stage 2
generalized response: inconsistent and non-purposeful response. PROM and positioning
RLA: stage 3
localized response: specific responses to stimuli, but still inconsistent. encourage active mvmt. increase body awareness
begin mat program and sitting balance
RLA: stage 4
confused and agitated: aggressive, start ambulation and transfers
Remember they can be verbally and physically abusive. No recall yet
RLA: stage 5
confused and non-agitated: highly distractible, confabulation (making up stories), recall is now present, engage in strengthening and endurance activities
RLA: stage 6
confused and appropriate: need to keep them on task.
muscle re-ed, use notebook, can give multi-step Instructions
RLA: stage 7
automatic and purposeful: appropriate response, but lacks insight into own limitations.
-forms STG and LTG, increase insights to status
RLA: stage 8
Purposeful Appropriate: alert, oriented, good recall
-evaluate general skills
neuritis
sudden onset of vertigo and nausea
lasts for 3-4 days, severe, unilateral
labyrinthitis
d/t infection, inflammation of the SCC
pain and hearing loss (unilalteral)
Meniere’s disease
increase in endolymph volume causing labyrinthine distension/rupture
fullness in ears, loss of hearing, tinnitus, vertigo
lasts 2-4 hours
episodic (unilateral, common)
perilymphatic fistula
a passage bt perilymph and middle ear (uncommon)
acoustic neuroma
CN 8 tumor, progressive unilateral hearing loss, tinnitus, mild disequilibrium
Bilateral vestibular loss
usually d/t meningitis, DM, ototoxic drugs
irreversible!!!
central vertigo
caused by a CVA, cerebellum involved usually,
constant dizziness, spontaneous, nystagmus, disequilibrium
