17
Q

Effect, Afferent, Efferent of Corneal Reflex

A

Corneal simulation causes orbicularis oculi to contract eyelids, CN5 ophthalmic branch, CN7

18
Q

Effect, Afferent, Efferent of Jaw-Jerk Reflex

A

Stretch reflex stimulating masseter contraction, CN5 mandibular branch sensory from muscle spindles, CN5 mandibular branch

19
Q

Effect, Afferent, Efferent of Vestibulo-ocular Reflex

A

20
Q

Effect, Afferent, Efferent of Carotid Sinus Reflex

A

Increased carotid sinus pressure decreased heart rate and blood pressure, CN9, CN10 (sympathetic tone also inhibited)

21
Q

Effect, Afferent, Efferent of Cough Reflex

A

Cough induced by upper respiratory tract irritation, CN10, CN10

22
Q

Effect, Afferent, Efferent of Gag Reflex

A

Reflex contraction of the pharyngeal constrictor muscles evoked by touching the back of the throat, CN9, CN10

23
Q

Nerve roots of Sciatic nerve

A

L4-S3 nerve roots

24
Q

Compression (due to what) at which level most common of sciatica

A

L5 or S1 (due to disc herniation or spinal foraminal stenosis)

25
Q

Ataxic gait, urinary incontinence, and dementia in an elderly patient

A

Normal pressure hydrocephalus

26
Q

Mechanism of injury in normal pressure hydrocephalus

A

Decreased absorption of CSF leads to increased CSF volume and ventricular enlargement, traction placed on cortical efferent and afferent nerve fibers in the corona radiata –> no sensation of bladder fullness or control over micturition –> bladder empties reflexively when full i.e. urge incontinence. Voluntary relaxation of the urethral sphincter remains in tact.

27
Q

Upper motor neuron injury signs

A

Spastic paralysis, clasp knife rigidity, hyperreflexia, Babinski sign

28
Q

Lower motor neuron injury signs

A

Flaccid paralysis, hypotonia, hyporeflexia, Muscle atrophy and fasiculations
