Network Redundancy Flashcards
What is the focus of Network Redundancy?
To ensure the network is up and running at all times.
What three connections does Network Redundancy include?
The servers connection to the network (network interface cards and cables)
The connections between switches and routers (ensure you have redundant paths inside the network)
The connections to the internet (ensure you have redundant paths out of the network)
How do we accomplish Network Redundancy?
We use two or more network interface cards on the server, operating as a pair, or in a load balancing configuration.
Note: You can run 2 pairs of this setup. Exa. Use 2 pairs of 2 network cards sharing load capacity. Additionally you might have a 5th network card that is stand alone as a backup redundancy to the 4 already in use.
How could you ensure redundant connections to routers from a switch?
You could have one switch connected to two different routers to ensure that if one of the routers goes down, you would still have another working router.
