Nervous System Flashcards

1
Q

Brain Location and Function

A
  • The brain is located inside of the skull
  • The brain is a complex organ that controls thought, memory, emotion, etc and every process that regulates our body. Together, the brain and spinal cord that extends from it make up the central nervous system, or CNS.

Q

Brain Tissues and tissue roles

A
  • The brain is obviously made out of nervous tissue because this tissue is used for regulating and controlling the nerves which relay information to and from the brain. Epithelial tissue (on outside of brain), connective tissue for support and smooth muscle tissue for very subtle contractions because the brain is a muscle.

Q

Brains structure

A
  • The brain is located near the head because it is close to ⅘ senses, has shorter reaction time for those senses and increase communication. It’s protected by the skull.
  • The folds minimize space and maximize surface area

Q

Spinal Cord Location and function

A

The spine/spinal cord is connected from the central vertebrae (Under the skull), all the way down to the pelvis.
The spinal cord is a column of nerves that connects your brain with the rest of your body, allowing you to control your movements. Without a spinal cord, you could not move any part of your body, and your organs could not function.
