Suboccipital nerve
- Comprised Posterior rami of C1 nerve.
- Innervates the 4 suboccipital muscles.
Greater occipital nerve
- Comprised of the posterior rami of the C2 nerve
- Function: sensory of the posterior scalp skin.
Least (3rd) occipital nerve
Posterior rami of C3 nerve
Function: sensory of the external occipital protuberance (most inferior portion of the scalp).
Posterior rami of spinal nerves C3-C7
Sensory of the posterior neck.
Lesser occipital nerve
Comprised of anterior rami of the C2 nerve.
- Function: sensory of posterolateral neck
(slightly Inferior to the ears).
Great auricular nerve
Comprised of the anterior rami of C2-C3
Function: sensory information of the lateral neck
(Directly inferior to the ear).
Transverse Cervical nerve
Comprised of the anterior rami of C2-C3 nerves
Function: sensory of the anterior neck.
Suprascapular nerve
Comprised of the anterior rami C3-C4 nerves.
Function:sensory of the posterior & anterolateral cervical region.
