What is the onset/natural course of neonatal acne? What is the incidence?
A
starts within first few weeks, resolves by 3 months
- occurs in 20% of healthy newborns

What are two possible causes of neonatal acne?
A
- malassezia overgrowth
- maternal androgens

How does neonatal acne present?
A
- on cheeks and nasal bridge most. commonly (but anywhere on face, head, neck)
- inflammatory papules and pustules more common than comedones

Treatment of mild, moderate, severe neonatal acne:
A
mild: gentle soap and water
moderate: topical retinoid, topical antibiotic, benzoyl peroxide
severe: oral antibiotics (erythromycin) or isotret
