  1. malassezia overgrowth
  2. maternal androgens

How does neonatal acne present?

A
  • on cheeks and nasal bridge most. commonly (but anywhere on face, head, neck)
  • inflammatory papules and pustules more common than comedones

Treatment of mild, moderate, severe neonatal acne:

A

mild: gentle soap and water
moderate: topical retinoid, topical antibiotic, benzoyl peroxide
severe: oral antibiotics (erythromycin) or isotret
