What are discreditable and discrediting conditions?
Discreditable = Condition that is potentially stigmatising if known about
Discrediting = Stigmatising condition that is visible or otherwise known about
What are the rights and obligations of the patient?
Rights= To stop or reduce some normal activities and responsibilities + be regarded as someone in need of care
Obligations = Seek and submit to medical help
What are rights and obligations of the doctor?
Rights= To examine patients physically and ask sensitive questions + authority
Obligations= To act for the welfare of the patient as opposed to self-
interestedly using training and skill
What is compliance and adherence?
Compliance = The extent to which the patientʼs behaviour matches the
prescriberʼs recommendations. (LACK OF PATIENT INVOLVMENT)
Adherence = Extent to which the patientʼs behaviour matches agreed
recommendations from the prescriber. (AGREED BETWEEN EACH OTHER)
what is concordance and what are the potential problems with concordance?
Work of the prescriber and patient in the consultation is a negotiation between equals and that the aim is a therapeutic alliance between them
Assumes respect for patients agenda and creation of openness
BUT not appropriate in CLINICAL TRIALS
