NBME 10. 178Q. Vaccinations 12-18 (1) Flashcards
Routine immunizations indicated during pregnancy include? 2
Inactivated influenza virus vaccine and the tetanus-diphtheria-acellular pertussis (Tdap) vaccine
when is administered Tdap? weeks
27-36 weeks (third trimester)
why Tdap is given in third trimester?
Before infants receive their own DTaP vaccine at age 2 months, maternal Tdap vaccines protect infants against neonatal tetanus and pertussis, which are associated with significant mortality.
if few pregnancies, how often give Tdap?
To protect infants, patients should receive the Tdap each pregnancy (even if the pregnancies occur within the same year).
was Q about wound due to knife. got Tdap 14 month ago in first pregnancy. why need again at the moment?
Pregnancy > wound
for wound: within last 10 years (in this case 14 month)
for pregnancy: got in first preg., not not in this + patient was in third trimester (32 weeks).
Therefore, need of Tdap is because pacient was not vaccinated in this pregnancy, not due to wound.
whats about human papillomavirus vaccine?
Do no give. Inadequate safety data.
when is given inactivated influenza virus?
vaccine may be indicated if it is influenza season.
should we give measles-mumps-rubella?
dont give, it live vaccine
should not be administered during pregnancy because of the theoretical risk that a live vaccine may cause the infant to contract the disease
