What is the treatment for nausea and vomiting in adults?
A
Ondansetron 4mg Oral
- repeat 4mg @ 5-10 min
- max 8mg
OR
Ondansetron 8mg IV
If contra to ondans
Prochlorperazine 12.5mg IM

What are the contraindications for Ondansetron
A
- Hypersensitivity
- Long QT syndrome
- hypokalaemia, hypomagnesia
- Concurrent use of Apomorphine use

A
- Hypersensitivity
- Under 21
- Pregnant
- Circulatory collapse
- CNS depression

What are the precautions for ondansetron
A
- pts with liver disease should not recieve more that 8mg per day
- care should be taken with patients on diuretics who may have underlying electrolyte imbalance
- Concurrent useof tramadol
- pregnancy

A
Q-T prolongation Widened QRS complex - Tachyarythmias - Seizures - Extrapyramidal reactions - Constipation - headache - fever - dizziness

peak - 20 mins
duration - 120 mins

onset - 5min
peak - 10 mins
duration - 2.6 - 6.1 hours

- epilepsy
- pts on alcohol or anti-depressants
