What is the treatment for MILD agitation in adults?
SAT +1
Olanzapine 10mg Oral
FRAIL = 5mg oral
Repeat once after 20 mins
What is the treatment for MODERATE agitation in adults?
SAT +2
5 - 10 mg IM
FRAIL - 2.5-5mg
Repeat 10mins max 20mg
What is the treatment for SEVERE agitation in adults?
SAT +3
Ketamine IM
<60kg = 200mg
60-90kg = 300mg
>90kg = 400mg
What are the contras for olanzapine
Nil
What are contras for ketamine
Suspected nontraumatic brain injury with severe hypertention SBP over 180
what are the precautions for olanzapine
- may be less effective if agitation due to drug intoxication
- elderly/frail
what are the side effects for olanzapine
sedation
dizziness
what are the precautions for ketamine
may exacerbate cardiovascular conditions due to effects on HR and BP
what are the side effects for keytamine
hypertension tachycardia emergence reactions resp depression and apnoea nausea and vomiting
what is the onset peak and duration for ketamine IM
onset - 3-4mins
duration - 12-25mins
what is the onset peak and duration for olanzapine
onset - 15mins
duration - 12-24 hours
