A
- At the start of the period, Yorkist rebellions wanted to remove Henry VII from the throne. This was also evident in the ‘Devise’ in 1553 when Northumberland wanted to prevent Mary Tudor from acceding the throne.
- Others were less open with their objectives and claimed they didn’t aim to remove the monarch, despite that being their true motive:
- Wyatt- claimed he wanted to stop Mary’s marriage to Phillip
- The Northern Earls- wanted to force Elizabeth to name Mary Queen of Scots as heir.
- Essex- who wanted to remove the Cecil faction.

- P.O.G followed the dissolution of smaller monasteries, which the rebels wanted to be reversed as well as demanding the restoration of traditional practices and papal rule.
- Western rebellion- followed the dissolution of the chantries and the introduction of a new, Protestant , `prayer Book. The rebels saw this as an attack on traditional religion and wanted the changes reversed
