  • Religion became a major cause of rebellion following the reformation. With the exception of Kett’s Rebellion, they typically wanted to reverse the religious change. By the end of the period, religious concerns had died down, as most people accepted the ‘Via Media’ approach of Elizabeth.

The Western Rebellion

  • The Western Rebellion was partially caused by religion, as it was in reaction to the changes brought about by the Edwardian Reformation. (Thirteen of the rebels demands were religious.)

Kett’s Rebellion

  • Despite being a largely social rebellion, the rebels complained about the lack of progress in the Reformation and called for improvement in the quality of the clergy.
