What event caused Dynastic Unrest in 1485?
A
- Tudor victory at the Battle of Bosworth.
- Major cause of rebellion at the start of the period, as the Yorkists tried to remove Henry VII from the throne.

Why did Henry VII face the most Dynastic Challenges?
A
- Due to his victory in battle, he was regarded by some as a usurper and had a weak claim to the throne.
- There were other Yorkists who had a stronger claim to the throne than Henry VII.

What Dynastic Rebellions occurred under Henry VII?
A
Lord Lovell (1486)
- Lovell and the Staffords who were Yorkish supporters attempted to raise an army and planned to kill Henry when he went on progress to the North. They wished to replace him with a leading Yorkist.
Lambert Simnel (1487)
- Richard Symonds (Oxford Priest) claimed that Lambert Simnel was the Earl of Warwick, as such he had a claim to the Throne. Symonds managed to drum up international support and landed foreign mercenaries in England, who were defeated at the battle of East Stoke.
Perkin Warbeck (1491 - 1497)
- Warbeck claimed to be Duke of York and gained foreign support from France, Burgundy, and Scotland. His several attempts at invasion failed, which resulted in his arrest and execution.

- Succession became a far less important, intermittent factor for the remainder of the Tudor period.

A
Pilgrimage of Grace:
- While the succession was not the main cause, the Rebels wanted to restore Mary to the succession after having been declared as an illegitimate heir.

What Dynastic Rebellions occurred under Mary?
A
Lady Jane Grey
- Edward excluded Mary from the succession under the devise, in favour of Lady Jane Grey. Mary defeated Northumberland and became Monarch after nine days.
Wyatt:
- Thomas Wyatt wanted to secure the succession for Elizabeth, so he attempted to stop Mary’s marriage to Phillip of Spain, as that marriage may have produced new heirs.

Northern Earls
- Northumberland and Westmoorland wanted to ensure Mary Queen of Scots would be Heir if Elizabeth died childless. They plotted to marry Mary to Duke of Norfolk to ensure a Catholic Succession.
Essex
- Essex wanted Elizabeth to acknowledge James VI of Scotland as heir, in an attempt to further his personal political agenda, and to gain influence with the new monarch.
