What is Ofsted?
Carries out inspections that rate childcare settings and schools from ‘outstanding’ to ‘inadequate’.
Publishes inspection reports that identify good practice and indicate what needs to be improved.
Puts failing schools into special measures and re-inspects to monitor progress and improvements.
What are the 5 aspects that Ofsted inspect?
Effectiveness of leadership and management
Effectiveness of safeguarding
Quality of teaching, learning and assessment
Personal development, behaviour and welfare
Outcomes for children and learners
What is the Care Quality Commission (CQC)?
Regulates health and social care for England
Registers and licences care services to ensure essential standards of quality and safety are met
Carries out inspections to monitor that the care provided continues to meet required standards
Publishes inspection reports that rate care settings from ‘outstanding’ to ‘inadequate’.
Can issue warning notices and fines if standards are not met
What is the Care Certificate?
Sets out minimum standards that should be covered in induction training before care workers are allowed to work without direct supervision
The certificate is for ‘unregulated’ roles (e.g health care assistants, physio assistants)
The aim is for all care workers to have the same skills and knowledge to provide safe and high quality care and support
What are the 15 standards in the Care Certificate?
The skills are detailed in 15 standards and care workers are assessed against these standards
What is the National Institute for Health and Care Excellence (NICE)?
Assess new drugs that have become available
Provides evidence-based guidelines on how particular conditions should be treated
Provides guidelines on how public health and social care services can best support people
Provides information services for those managing and providing health and social care
Aims to improve outcomes for people using the NHS and other public health and social care services
What is the Equality and Human Rights Commission (EHRC)?
Provides information, advice and guidance about discrimination
Provides definitions of types of discrimination
Gives advice to help you decide if what happened to you was against equality law
Suggests ways to support and sort out the situation
Produces fact sheets about discrimination based on the 9 protected characteristics
Advises on how to make a discrimination complaint
Provides information about how to take a case to court
Provides a telephone equality-advisory and support helpline
