What is discrimination?
It is an unjust and unfair treatment of individuals based on their characteristics and differences.
This is normally due to uninformed attitudes and beliefs.
What is the basis of discrimination?
Gender.
Race.
Religion.
Culture.
Disability.
Social Class.
Sexual Orientation.
What are the 7 types of discriminatory practices?
Abuse= a negative and harmful way of behaving towards another individual or group of people
Indirect Discrimination= a policy, practice or rule that applies to everybody but it has a detrimental effect (disadvantage) on people.
Direct Discrimination= intentionally putting someone at a disadvantage or treating them unfairly.
Stereotyping= generalisations are made about a particular group of teenagers (often aggressive and exaggerated).
Labelling= a negative approach that identifies people as members of a particular group with the assumption that ‘they are all the same’.
Prejudice= a negative attitude or dislike of an individual or group based on ill-informed beliefs or opinions.
Bullying= a repeated behaviour intended to physically or psychologically hurt someone.
