What is Nasal Septal Haematoma?
Development of a haematoma between the septal cartilage and overlying perichondrium.
Aetiology of Nasal Septal Haematoma.
Complication of nasal trauma (can be relatively minor).
Clinical Presentation of Nasal Septal Haematoma (2).
- Sensation of Nasal Obstruction.
2. Pain and Rhinorrhoea.
Examination of Nasal Septal Haematoma.
Bilateral cherry-red swelling arising from nasal septum.
Differential Diagnosis of Nasal Septal Haematoma.
Probe the swelling - boggy in NSH but firm in Septal Deviation.
Management of Nasal Septal Haematoma (2).
- Surgical Drainage.
2. IV Antibiotics.
Prognosis of nasal Septal Haematoma.
Irreversible Septal Necrosis (within 3-4 days) due to pressure-related ischaemia of cartilage = SADDLE-NOSE DEFORMITY.
