Competitive inhibition at narcotic receptor sites
Reverse respiratory depression secondary to opiate drugs
Inhibits effect of morphine
Contraindications for Naloxone
Use with caution in narcotic-dependent patients, neonates of narcotic-addicted mothers

Restlessness Seizure Dyspnea Pulmonary Edema Tachycardia Hypertension Dysthymias Cardiac Arrest Nausea Vomiting Diaphoresis
Precautions for Naloxone
Incompatible with alkaline solutions
Acute withdrawal syndrome may result in a combative patient
Dose & Administration of Naloxone
Adult Dose: 0.4-2 mg SIVP/IM/IO/SQ/ET/IN repeat at 5 minute intervals to max dose of 10mg
Pedi Dose: 0.1 mg/kg IV/IO/IM/SQ every 2 minutes as needed max dose of 2mg
