NA 3 Flashcards
Where do nerves enter the spinal cord for the dorsal column path?
Enter into posterior column via dorsal ganglion. Fibers above T6 are in the fasiculus cuneatus, below t6 in the fasiculus gracilus
Where does the dorsal column pathway decussate?
At the medial lemniscus in the medulla (this becomes very midline as you ascend through medulla)
What is the path of the dorsal column system from the medulla?
Medulla- medial lemniscus
Pons- orientation flips to medial lateral
Midbrain
Thalamus- synapse
Third order neurons project to primary somatosensory cortex
Function to dorsal column/ medial lemniscal system
Vibration
Proprioception
Role of spinothalamic tract
Pain, temperature, ascending from skin
Where does the spinal thalamic tract decussate?
At entering cord level (posterior horn) and thalamus
