Infestation of a host by a fly larva

Cuterebra
A
Primarily rodents and rabbits, adults have no biting mouthparts. Larvae penetrate skin at site of wound or mouth/nose.

Clinical signs and treatment of cuterebra
A
Cyst-like lesions with draining tract, can sometimes see posterior worm. Remove, do not crush, flush, do not suture.

Cutaneous myiasis
A
Blow or flesh flies lay eggs in moist areas, hatch and larvae feed on dead tissue. Larvae produce lesions with toxicosis. Treat by clipping and cleaning area, treat with antimicrobials for bacteria.

Fly strike
A
stable flies bite ears or face of dogs. Apply permethrin.
