Cheyletiella
Large palpable hook claws, complete life cycle on host, live in keratin layer of epidermis, Dog clinical signs: seborrhea, scaling/crusting on back of neck. Cat clinical signs: pruritis, often asymptomatic. Diagnosis if they have been in groups, kennel, humans have lesions. Do superficial skin scraping or clear tape.
Treatment for Cheyletiella
Selamectin for all but there are no approved treatments. Contagious so treat all animals. Zoonotic.
Otodectes cynotis
Otodectic mange, ear mites. Mostly seen in cats. Hypersensitivity, most at an early age. Do physical exam or ear swab. Clean ears and apply moxidectin or selamectin
Chiggers
Small yellow/orange/red hairy mites. Larvae are parasitic only. Do not burrow in skin or suck blood. Inject enzyme that break down cells. Leads to papules, crust. Use anti-histamines or corticosteroids.
