Diease: Lesions on body, begins in lungs, going to skin/bones
Colony: white cottony at 25-30 degrees (yeast like at 35-37 body temp)
ID: Broad Based Buds in yeast form ; “lollipop” in fungal form
Paracoccidiodes brasilensis
Disease: South America
Colony: slow grower, brown-ish
ID: thick-walled attached by THIN connections “Ships Wheel”
Coccidioides immitis
Disease: San Joaquin Valley Fever (AZ, CA… inhale arthroconidida)
Colony: white, cottony, moderate grower
ID: Barrel shaped arthroconidia, thick walled
Sporothrix schenckii
Disease: Skin lesion, becoming systemic ; traumatic implantation with contaminated soil ; “Drunken Rose Gardener’s Disease”
Colony: white to black
ID: black, slender, tapered conidiophores with pear-shaped conidia with thread-like denticles, “rosettes”
When it’s yeast-like, it makes “cigar bodies”
