Mycobacteria Tuberculosis Flashcards

1
Q

1)Important properties
2)who is in high risk of exposure
3)who is in high risk of active TB
4)pathogenesis
5)Symptoms of lung TB
6)Miliary TB
7)infliximab effect on asymptomatic TB

A

1)Acid-fast(due to mycolic acid), grow slowly in culture, obligate aerobe, has cord factor(activate macrophage(granuloma formation), induce TNF-a secretion from macrophage),
2)prison, IVDA, healthcare, immigrants, homeless.
3)Immunosuppressed patient
4) inflammation and granuloma formation,
see photo on step 1 first aid
5)Secondary TB or Primary progressive TB due to immunosuppress cause damage in upper lobe of lungs than can lead to pneumothorax, pleural effusion, bronchopneumonia, hemoptysis, cough, fever, night sweat and weight lost
6)It is TB that spread in blood and cause multi organ damage for example: meningitis, pericarditis, pots disease, osteomyelitis, lymphadenopathy, liver disease, adrenal damage, sterile pyuria
7)infliximab is monoclonal antibody that inhibit TNF-a and lead to reactive TB
