- USE appropriate automation at all times
- UNDERSTAND the FMA at all times
- TAKE ACTION if things don’t go as expected
What does land ASAP RED mean?
Land as soon as possible, at the nearest airport at which a SAFE LANDING can be made.
-time critical situation
What does land ASAP AMBER mean?
Consider landing at the nearest SUITABLE airport
What is a suitable aerodrome?
An Adequate Aerodrome with good weather
FOPPM6.3.15
Suitable runway definition:
Fit for purpose of landing in the prevailing environmental conditions and aircraft config
Definition of an Adequate aerodrome?
- Meets physical Characteristics
- LDA not less than LDR
- Surface and Strength ok, wont damage a/c or airport
- Enough room for parking clear of movement areas
- lighting
- Provide facilities and services for aircraft:
- Met forecasts
- At least 1 suitable instrument approach
Aircraft must be planned within 60mins OEI (430nm ISA still air)
-
Scenario: If approaching KG from PH and go into EMER ELEC CONFIG (LAND ASAP RED) where will you land? Wx: KG -CAVOK PH -TEMP0 TS
LAND ASAP RED -nearest airport where safe landing can be made.
EMER ELEC -LDR:
2561m (30deg,SL,1010,nil wind)
Must land at Perth.
A safe landing cannot be made at KG
How do you intercept glideslope from above?
Flap 2, Gear down
Cleared for approach, APPR pb, AP 1+2,
When LOC or LOC*:
FCU ALT wind above
VS 1500fpm, PULL
(speedbrake if required)
If in ALT* FL390 and speed reducing towards Apha Prot, what should you do?
PUSH TO LEVEL OFF
Nose will come down. Once speed recovered continue climb
Cruising at FL390 and speed starts to wash off due wind change or something. You try to request lower level but ATC very slow to come back to you. What do you do?
Go to THRUST MCT
NB. This will disengage A/THR
What is the only time the aircraft stays in alternate law after landing gear down for landing?
After Abnormal Attitude Law
Why is a long runway required in ELEC EMER config?
NO ANTISKID!
When in alternate law, when will the aircraft automatically go into Direct law?
Landing Gear down,
AND
AP OFF
How do you know you’re in Direct Law?
amber crosses
Amber USE MAN PITCH TRIM
How do you manage an approach which will transition into Direct Law once the Gear is down (and AP off)?
Early stabilised to Flap3,
Intercept GS, then
Landing Gear at normal time
What are the features of Direct Law?
No automatic trim -manual trim only
Amber USE MAN PITCH TRIM
No protections operative
Alpha Floor is inoperative
Overspeed and stall warnings available as for alternate law
Is flap Full available for a Direct Law Landing?
No,
Config 3
Direct Law:
a) Roll Rate clean
b) Roll rate slats extended
a) 30 deg / sec
b) 25 deg / sec
