A

Location: lining of many organs (eg. stomach, esophagus, uterus, blood vessels)
- Type of Contraction: involuntary - can sustain prolonged contractions

A

Location: attached to the bones of skeleton by tendons [bands of connective tissue connecting muscles to bones]
Type of Contraction: voluntary - controlled consciously.

Muscle Contractions

A

When muscles contract they shorten.
Muscles can ONLY pull (They cannot push!)
Muscles that permit movement are found in pairs, because as a muscle is in the relaxed state it needs an opposite muscle to stretch it.
