Muscles Pt5 Flashcards
What is the action of the Tensor Fasciae Latae? (The thigh)
Flex the hip, medially rotate the hip, abduct the hip and stabilise the hip.
What is the action of the piriformis?
Laterally rotate the hip, abduct the hip when the hip is flexed.
What muscle is the sciatic nerve located under?
Piriformis
What is the action of the Quads?
All: extend the knee
Rectus Femoris: flex the hip
The inability to stack the pelvis in neutral whilst kneeling can be caused by a tight what?
Recuts Femoris
What are the three muscles of the hamstrings?
The biceps Femoris, semimembranosus and semitendinous.
What is the action of the biceps Femoris?
Flex the knee, laterally rotates the flexed knee, extends the hip, laterally rotates the hip and tilt the pelvis posteriorly.
What is the action of the semembranosus and the semitendinosus?
Flex the knee, medially rotate the flexed knee, extend the hip, medially rotate the hip and tilt the pelvis posteriorly.
What is the action of the transverse abdominis?
To compress abdominal contents. (Big stabilising muscle)
What is the action of the internal obliques?
Unilaterally: laterally flex the vertebral column to the same side, rotate the vertebral column to the same side.
Bilaterally: flex the vertebral column and compress abdominal contents.
What is the action of the external obliques?
Unilaterally: laterally flex the vertebral column to the same side. Rotate the vertebral column to the opposite side.
Bilaterally: flex the vertebral column and compress the abdominal contents.
What is the action of the rectus abdominis?
Flex the vertebral column (stabiliser muscle due to size and location)
