Muscles Flashcards
What are the three different types of muscles?
Skeletal muscles, smooth muscles and cardiac muscles
What are local muscles?
They provide stability and support during joint movement.
What are global muscles?
Provide us with gross movement, strength and force.
What are slow twitch fibres?
Endurance muscles, keep us going for a long time. Efficient at using oxygen.
What are Type 2A fast twitch muscles?
Have some endurance and some speed. These are the all rounders.
What are type 2B fast twitch muscles?
Bursts of power, strong and fast but tire quickly.
What muscles make up the rotator cuff?
Supraspinatus, Infraspinatus, Teres Minor and Subscapularis.
What is the action does of the Supraspinatus?
Abduct the shoulder, stabilise the head of the humerus.
What is the action of the infraspinatus and the Teres Minor?
Laterally rotate the should, adduct the shoulder, extend the shoulder, horizontally abduct the shoulder, stabilise the head of the humerus.
What is the action of the Subscapularis?
Medially rotate the shoulder, stabilise the head of the humerus.
What is the action of the Serratus Anterior?
Abduct the scapula, depress the scapula and hold the medial border of the scapula against the rib cage. Stabilising muscle for the the shoulder girdle.
What is the action of the Pectoralis Minor?
Abduct the Scapula, depress the scapula, tilt the scapula interiorly.
