Muscles Pt2 Flashcards
What action does the diaphragm do?
Draw down the central tendon of the diaphragm, increase the volume of the thoracic cavity during inhalation.
Which muscles are antagonisits to the diaphragm?
The abdominals
What action happens in the intercostals?
External intercostals assist with inhalation by drawing down the ribs supriorly, increasing the space of the thoracic cavity.
What are the four attachments of the pelvis floor?
Coccyx, pubic symphysis, ischial tuberosity x 2
What are the four deep core stabilisers?
The diaphragm, the multifidis, the pelvic floor and the transverse abdominis.
What is an agonist?
A muscle that causes an action.
What is an antagonist?
A muscle that blocks the action of an agonist.
What is a synergist?
A muscle that helps perform the action of an agonist.
What is a mobiliser?
A muscle that moves a joint.
What is a stabiliser?
A muscle that stabilises a joint against a movement.
What is Eccentric movement?
A muscle that lengthens against force.
What is concentric movement?
A muscle that shortens against force.
What is isometric movement?
A contraction that causes tension on your muscle as it is stationary.
