O - Lateral 1/3 of clavicle, lower lip of crest of scapular spine
I - Deltoid tuberosity of humerus
A - Abducts arm
Anterior fibers flex and medially rotate arm
Posterior fibers extend and laterally rotate arm
Nerve - Axillary nerve C5 -C6
Artery - Posterior circumflex humeral artery
Infraspinatus
O - Infraspinatus fossa
I - Greater tubercle of humerus (middle facet)
A - Laterally rotates arm
Nerve - Suprascapular nerve
Artery - Suprascapular artery
Latissimus Dorsi
O - SP’s T7-S5
Posterior iliac crest
Lower 3-4 ribs
Sometimes inferior angle of Scap
I - Floor of intertubercular groove
A - Extends arm and rotates the arm medially
Nerve - Thoracodorsal nerve C7-C8
Artery - Thoracodorsal artery
Pectoralis Major
O - Medial 1/2 of clavicle
Manubrium and body of sternum
Costal cartilages of ribs 2-6
Sometimes rectus sheath of upper abd wall
I - Crest of greater tubercle of humerus
A - Flexes and adducts the arm, medially rotates the arm
Nerve - Medial and lateral pectoral nerves C5-T1
Artery - Pectoral branch of the thoracoacromial trunk
Pectoralis Minor
O - Ribs 3-5
I - Coracoid Process of Scap
A - Draws the Scap forward, medial and down
Nerve - Medial pectoral nerve C8-T1
Artery - Pectoral branch of thoracoacromial trunk
Rhomboid Major
O - SP’s T2-T5
I - Medial border of scapula inferior to scapular spine
A - Retracts, elevates and rotates scapula inferior
Nerve - Dorsal scapular nerve C5
Artery - Dorsal scapular artery
Rhomboid Minor
O - Inferior end of nuchal ligament, and SP’s C7-T1
I - Medial border of Scap at the root of scapular spine
A - Retracts, elevates and rotates scapula inferior
Nerve - Dorsal scapular nerve C5
Artery - Dorsal scapular artery
Serratus anterior
O - Ribs 1-9
I - Medial anterior border of scap
A - Scapular protraction
Inferior fibers rotate the scap superiorly
Nerve - Long thoracic C5-C7
Artery - Lateral thoracic
Subclavius
O - 1st rib and its cartilage
I - Inferior surface of clavicle
A - Draws clavicle and shoulder down and forward
Nerve - Nerve to subclavius C5
Artery - Clavicular branch of thoracoacromial trunk
Subscapularis
O - Medial 2/3 of the costal surface of the scap (subscapular fossa)
I - Lesser tubercle of humerus
A - Medially rotation of arm
Assists in extension of arm
Nerve - Upper and lower Subscapular nerves C5 and C6
Artery - Subscapular artery
Supraspinatus
O - Supraspinatus fossa
I - Great tubercle of Humerus (highest facet)
A - Initiates abduction of the arm
Nerve - Suprascapular nerve C5 C6
Artery - Suprascapular artery
Teres Major
O - Dorsal surface of the inferior angle of the scapula
I - Crest of lesser tubercle of the humerus
A - Adducts the arm
Medially rotates the arm
Assists in arm extension
Nerve - Lower subscapular C5 C6
Artery - Circumflex scapular
Teres Minor
O - Upper 2/3 of the lateral border of Scap
I - Greater tubercle of humerus (lowest facet)
A - Laterally rotates the arm
Nerve - Axillary C5 C6
Artery - Circumflex scapular artery
Trapezius
O - Medial 1/3 superior nuchal line
External occipital protuberance
Nuchal ligament
Sp’s C7-T12
I - Lateral 1/3 of the clavicle
Medial side of acromion and upper crest of scapular spine
Tubercle of the scapular spine
A - Elevates and depresses scapula
Rotates the scap superiorly
Retracts the Scap
Nerve - Accessory nerve for motor
C3-C4 for proprioception
Artery - Transverse cervical
Biceps Brachii
O - Short head - Tip of coracoid process of scap
Long head - Supraglenoid tubercle of Scap
I - Radial tuberosity
A - Flexes forearm, flexes arm (long head) Supinates
Nerve - Musculocutaneous C5-C6
Artery - Brachial artery
