Muscle Structure Flashcards
Myofilaments
Make up sacromeres
Muscle fibers
Banded striated appearance. Each fiber is a single cell in the muscle
Sarcolemma
Membrane around muscle cell
Sarcoplasm
Cell membrane of muscle cell
Epimysium
Covering of muscle bundle
Fascicle
Inside muscle bundle
Perimysium
Covering of fasicle
Endomysium
Covering of muscle fiber
Sacromere
Contractile unit, found in myofibril. Has a and I bands.
Myofibril
Composes muscle fibers
Actin
Type of myofilament, thin
Myosin
Type of myofilament, thick
Sarcoplastic reticulum
Like a smooth ER. Surrounds each myofibril. Regulates intercellular calcium levels
T tubule
Transverse tubules. Allows extra cellular fluid to move throughout the fiber
Origin
Attachment of muscle. Occurs at the less movable bone
