Heart Flashcards
Pulmonary circuit
Right side of the heart. Unoxygenated blood
Systemic circuit
Left side of the heart. Oxygenated blood
AV valves
Atrioventricular valves between the atria and ventricles prevent backflow into the atria when the ventricle contract
Semilunar valves
Guard bases of large arteries and prevent backflow in to arteries. Semilunar valves are closed when the heart is relaxed
SA Node
Sinoatrial node located in the right atrial wall that generates impulses and acts as a pacemaker
AV node
Atrioventricular node above the tricuspid valve that delays the impulse to allow atria to respond
AV bundle
Bundle that provides an electrical connection between atria and ventricles
Purkinje fibers
Network of fibers that carry impulse to the apex and ventricular walls
Arrhythmia
Irregular heart rhythms
Fibrillations
rapid and irregular contraction
Bradycardia
Slow heart rate
ECG/EKG
A test used to monitor electrical signals of the heart
Heart sounds
Noises generated by the beating heart and its blood
Systole
When the heart is contracted
Diastole
The heart is relaxed and drawing in blood
