Muscle fibres Flashcards

1
Q

Name the three muscle fibre types

A
  • Slow oxidative/ type 1
  • Fast oxidative glycolytic/ type 2a

Q

Describe type one muscle fibres

A

Contain mitochondria and myoglobin so they work aerobically which produces little force but resists fatigue

Q

Describe type 2a muscle fibres

A

Produce large amounts of force and can only resist fatigue for a short length of time

Q

Describe type 2b muscle fibres

A

Designed to work anaerobically and they contain phosphocreatine, produce large amounts of force but fatigue quickly

Q

SO fibres are recruited (1) to provide a (2) force of contraction. Aerobic training should be carefully considered work to relief ratios should be (3) as this won’t damage fibres so can be done (4)

A

1 - intermittently
2 - low
3 - 1:1 or 1:0.5
4 - daily

Q

Fast oxidative fibres are recruited (1) near muscular exhaustion which often results in (2) work to relief ratios should be (3) recovery time can be between (4) and muscle groups should not be exercised (5)

A
1 - in the last 2-20 seconds of a contraction
2 - fibre damage (DOMS)
3 - 1:3+
4 - 4-10 days
5 - more than once in 48 hours
