Muscle and Nervous Tissue Flashcards
what are the 3 types of muscle tissue?
- skeletal
- cardiac
- smooth
describe skeletal muscle tissue
striated, each fiber is multi-nucleated, long cells that attach to skeleton
describe cardiac muscle tissue
striated, mono-/di-nucleated shorter cells
what are intercalated disks?
dark lines, connect one cardiac cell to another, only found in the heart
describe smooth muscle
NOT striated, mono-nucleated smaller cells that almost looks like dense regular connective tissue without waviness, involved in involuntary muscles and organs
what does nervous tissue conduct
electrical signals
what 2 cell types is nervous tissue composed of?
- neurons: the nerve cells that actually conduct signals
2. neuroglial cells: smaller cells that provide support and maintain the environment
