A
Viral illness caused by paramyxal virus causing parotid swelling.

Presentation
A
Uni or bilateral parotid swelling
Myalgia, fever, fatigue, headache, malaise.

Management
A
Salivary swab for mumps IgG.
Notifiable disease.
Self limiting illness which should get better in 7 days.
Stay away from school for 5 days after parotitis.
Cold packs can help swelling of parotid.

Complications
A
Epididymo-orchtis, oophoritis, meningitis and pancreatitis.
