Where is Dharavi
Located in the centre of Mumbai next to financial district.
Is found in between two railways (less than 1 square mile)
Around 1 million people live there
It’s main industries are potters, leather tanners, embroidery workers
Why is Dharavi one of the most biggest shanty town in Mumbai
The local government own the land so the piece living here are illegal squatters however they do pay money to a landlord who looks after their area of Dharavi.
Many houses are made with scrap materials.
One toilet per 500 people, prefer to use river instead.
What are the problems in Dharavi
It is very unhealthy due to the lack of sanitation and raw sewage running through streets, also children play and clean clothes in that water. Polluted water causes ill health. Lack of basic services. Not many people can afford to go to school so many cant get good paying jobs.
Where is Mumbai
In India. It has a population of over 20 million people
