Multi-store model of memory. Flashcards
1
Q
What is Multi-store model of memory?
A
A representation of how memory works in terms of 3 stores called sensory register,LTM,STM and how information is transferred from one store to another
2
Q
who was it first described by?
A
shriffin and atkinson
3
Q
what is sensory register?
A
- the place where information is held at each of the senses -very large capacity
- constantly receiving information but most of this receives no attention
4
Q
what occurs in attention?
A
- if the persons attention is focused on one of the sensory stores-»»» then the data is transferred to STM
- first step in remembering something
5
Q
what does short term memory include?
A
- limited duration
- information will disappear from STM if new information enters STM=pushing out the original information= this is because STM has limited capacity
6
Q
What is maintenance Rehearsal?
A
- repetition of words over and over again
- the more the information is rehearsed the better it is remembered
7
Q
What does Long term Memory include?
A
-unlimited duration + capacity
8
Q
what is retrieval
A
the process of getting information from LTM involves the information passing back through STM
