Q

Evaluation

useful real life application?

A
  • STRENGTH= has hugely important uses in the real world where the consequence of inaccurate EWT can be very serious
  • Loftus=believes that leading questions can have such a distorting effect on memory that police officers = need to be very careful about how they phrase their questions during interviews
  • research into EWT= one area where psychologists believe they can make an important positive difference to the lives of real ppl

Q

Evaluation

the tasks are artificial?

A
  • LIMITATION= loftus and palmers study= pps watched film clips of car accidents
  • this is a very different experience from witnessing a real life accident= mainly because these clips lack the stress of real lifer accidents
  • LIMITATION = because studies that use artificial tasks = may tell us very little about how leading questions affect EWT in cases of real accidents/crimes.

Q

Evaluation

it may be response bias?

A

Loftus and palmer = found that leading questions changed the original memory HE Bekerian = suggest it might be response bias

  • found that pps were less accurate on the later question when they had been given inconsistent data
  • ^^suggests that the order of questions= had a significant effect»> therefore memory change was due to response bias not storage
