Arnica montana

A

ASTER. Anti-inflammatory, immune stimulant (increases phagocytosis)

Use topically for bruises, strains and sprains, sore muscles and joints. Don’t take internally.

Boswellia serrata

A

Frankincense. Anti-inflammatory, astringent, analgesic., circulatory stimulant. LOX inhibition!

Use for asthma, IBD, RA, OA, inflammation of any kind. Take with food. May potentiate NSAIDs.

Bryonia alba

A

Cytotoxic, anti-cancer and strong purgative.

DO NOT use as a purgative because of TOXICITY.

Can use topically for joint problems, PUD, asthma.

Avoid in pregnancy, don’t eat it

Harpagophytum procumbens

A

AI, anodyne, bitter and GI stimulant.

Use for joints and tendon complaints. Dyspepsia, lack of appetite, liver and GB stuff. Back pain (decreases need for Advil)

Avoid in PUD or use w PPIs because it increases gastric acid.

Piper methysticum

A

Inhibits COX2. Calming to mild anxiety. Inhibits Na+ ions, acts like a muscle relaxer. Facial neuralgias.

Can be hepatotoxic, cause ulcers.

Don’t use in patient with other psych complaints (depression, psychosis, or people on benzos).

Salix alba

A

White willow. Analgesic, AI, anti-rheumatic. Use for gout, fevers, aches and pains. Tannins can irritate the GI.

Don’t use in kids with the flu-> Reye’s syndrome. Or in G6PD.

Don’t use w ASA or other NSAIDS
