MSK Basics Flashcards
Describe the features of cortical bone
Osteons surround the bone
They have Concentric lamellae w/ Haversian canal
They contain Collagen T1 and Hydroxyapatitie
What are the organic and inorganic components of cortical bone
Organic = T1 Collagen Inorganic = Hydroxyapatite
What is the Haversian Canal
Supplies single osteon and allows communication between osteons w/ Volkmann canals
Whats the difference between Haversian and Volkmann canal
Haversian = Supplies single osteon Volkmann = Allows communication between osteons
What are the two main components of bone
Trabercular bone (Low mass but high strength)
Cortical bone
What surrounds the trabercuar bones
Osteons
What are the 3 main joint types of the body
Fibrous
Cartilagenous
Synovial
Describe Fibrous joints
Immovable joints such as skull sutures
Describe Cartilagenous joints
Partially movable such as IV disk and pubic symphasis
Describe Synovial joints
Freely movable joints found in most sites of the body
What do synovial joints consist of (JAS hands)
Joint capsule
Articular cartilage
Synovial cavity
What is found in the inner lining of the joint capsule
Synovial membrane
Where is synovial fluid found
Synovial cavity
What do you call a bone-bone attacment
Ligament
What is a tendon
Tissue joining muscle to bone
