Antiphospholipid syndrome Flashcards
What is Antiphospholipid syndrome
Idiopathic or SLE generated thrombosis leading to miscarriages and aPL Antibodies
What are the presentations of APL Syndrome
CLOTS
- Coagulopathy
- Livedo Reticularis
- Miscarriages
- Thrombocytopenia
What is Livedo Reticularis
Purple colour of skin in lace like formation
How is APL syndrome diagnosed
Sx w/
- Lupus anticoagulant
- Anticardiolipin Antibodies
- Anti B2Glycoprotein 1 Antibodies
- IgG/M positive
What is the 1st line treatment for APL syndrome
Warfarin
-Long term if previous thrombus
What is the treatment of APL Syndrome if the patient is pregnant
Aspirin and Heparin
What is the prophylaxis used in APL Syndrome
Aspirin
What are the 3 main markers raised in antiphospholipid
Lupus anticoagulant
Anti Cardiolipin
Anti b2 glycoprotein 1
What is Livedo reticularis
Purple lace like skin
What is Catastrophic APS
Rapid progressing APS that damages more than 2 organs
What can trigger APS
Infection
Oxidative and physical stress
What is the pathology of APS
Stress -> Endothelium apoptosis -> Phospholipid bind to plasma proteins = new antigen = new AA complex = APS
