MSK Flashcards
C5-C6 injury and presentation
Fractures to surgical neck of humerus/anterior dislocation
flattened deltoid/loss of arm abduction >15 degrees
Loss of sensation of deltoid and lateral arm
C5-C7 muskulocutaneous n.
Upper trunk compression
Loss of forearm flexion and supination
Loss of sensation of lateral forearm
C5-T1 Radial n.
Midshaft fraxure of humerus / compression of axilla
Wrist drop
Decreased grip strength (wrist extension needed for max flexor function)
Loss of sensation of posterior arm/forearm and dorsal hand
C8-T1 Ulnar N proximal and distal
Medial epicondyle of humerus - proximal
fracture of hook of hamate - distal
ulnar claw on digit extension
Radial deviation of wrist upon flexion (proximal)
loss of wrist flexion / flexion of medial fingers, abduction and adduction of fingers
loss of sensation over medial 1+1/2 of fingers plus the hypothenal eminence
C5-T1 Median nerve - proximal and distal
Supracondylar fracture of humerus - proximal
Carpal tunnel / wrist laceration - distal
Ape Hand and Popes blessing
Loss of wrist flexion, flexion of lateral fingers, thumb opposition, lumbrical of 2nd and 3rd digit
Loss of sensation over thenar eminance and dorsal and palmar aspect of lateral 3+1/2 fingers with proximal lesions
Tinnel sign (tingling on percussion) carpal tunnel
Recurrent branch of the median nerve (C5-T1)
Superficial laceration of palm
Ape hand
Loss of thenar muscle group - opposition, abduction, and flexion of thumb
No loss of sensation
Preferred diagnosis for Osteomyeletis
Spine MRI
