Moving hats: rxns 6-8 of PPP Flashcards
rxn 6
tops of the molecules, have 2 5C compounds, one of which is R5P and Xu5P which react to get 7C (S7P) and 3C (GAP) sugar.
rxn 7
The C7 (S7P) and C3 (GAP) sugars from rxn 6 react, to get a C6 (F6P) and C4 (E4P) sugar.
rxn 8
take a second copy of Xu5P and react with E4P to get F6P and GAP
end products of PPP
F6P, F6P, GAP
transketolase
catalyze rxn 6 and 8
transaldolase
rxn 7
trans
moving something across from one substrate to another. The “something” here is the hat of the molecule.
Hats
2C hat from Xu5P goes on top of S7P and F6P. (3C left becomes GAP)
Then, in rxn 7, a 3C hat from S7P is transfered on top of GAP to give F6P.
another hat is 2C from Xu5P to E4P to give F6P again
large vs small hat
small: have an OH and ketone
large hat: 2 kinds of OH with ketone in middle
e- sink
two separate e- sinks, trans aldolase and transketolase in these…. sinks identical to aldolase (transaldolase) and TAZ (transketolase).
purpsoe of these is where you want to cut. Schiff: cut betwen a and b carbons of substrate.
TAZ: carbonyl and alpha positiojn
