A

beta-hydroxy acid to beta-keto acid.. similar in concept to G6PDH… have hydride transfer, stereospecific…

but mostly interested here:
Lys is a proton source, then as a proton remover.

Why does b-hydroxy acid to b-keto acid occur

A

you are doing a decarboxylation, so need an e- sink so creating an e- sink through redox reaction to create NADPH.

Tautomerization is found in keto-enol tautomerization.
