What are reasons u gotta b Xtra attentive & cautious of motorcycles?
They’re smaller & harder 2 see, can easily hide in blind spot.
It can be harder 2 judge their distance/speed
Motorcycles turn signals often don’t turn off automatically
B4 turning left in presence of motorcycle
Make sure u know mc speed b4 proceeding
Look left, right, left
What precaution should u take due to motorcycle turn signals not turning off automatically?
Don’t assume mc will turn bc they have signal on, wait until they actually start turning b4 making action/decisions
Do this w all vehicles but esp mc!
What should u stay aware & alert of regarding motorcycles lane position?
Good mcers constantly changing positions within lane 2 see & be seen & avoid objects in rd.
How much following space should u give motorcyclists?
Over 4 secs
Even longer during bad weather
What precautions should u take in regard 2 motorcyclists hiding more in blind spots?
Always visual check 4 mc in mirrors & blind spots b4 entering/leaving lane/intersection.
Mc often hide in blind spots & r missed in quick glance.
How must motorcycles overtake/pass pedestrians or bikers?
May pass on left of ped/bike in same lane w 3+ ft clear distance
How can rd surface affect motorcycles lane position?
Bumpy rds, gravel, debris, pavement seams, small animals, potholes & even manhole covers may force mcer 2 change speed/lane position
