Define motivation
The internal mechanisms and external stimulus which arouse and direct our behaviour
What does motivation:
- involve
- depend on
- concern
Involves our inner drives towards achieving a goal
Depends on external pressures and rewards that we perceive in our environment
Concerns the intensity and the direction of our behaviour
What is extrinsic motivation?
When someone behaves the way the do because of an external mechanisms.
This can either be tangible or intangible.

Money
Medals
Give an example of intangible extrinsic motivation
Praise
Encouragement
What is intrinsic motivation?
An athlete having an internal drive and desrie to participate and perform well.
Wanting to take part for enjoyment and self satisfaction
Name and explain the three parts of intrinsic motivation
Accomplishment = athletes wishing to increase their level of skill to get a feeling of accomplishment
Stimulation = seeking an adrenaline rush or extreme excitement
Knowledge = wanting to know more about the performance and how to improve technique or skills to improve performance
